Version 4.2 is an update of version 4.1 of Game Maker. The major
changes are a better mechanism for creating tiled backgrounds and path
resources. Also the program and the created games should be much more
stable, leading to less crashed and hangs. Many other small changes have
also been made. For a more extended list see the
Changes.
Version 4.2 is backwards compatible with version 4.1 and version 4.
Version 4 is not compatible with previous versions.
Download
The program is available for free for the Windows platform (95, 98, NT,
2000, ME, XP). Simply download it here, and execute gmaker.exe. This will
install the Game Maker on your machine. If version 4.0 or 4.1 is
already installed on your machine you are recommended to uninstall it
first.
If you have problems with the installer, you can also download a zip
file containing the program. Simply unzip it to a place you like.
These downloads contain a few example games and a small collection of
sprites, backgrounds, sounds, etc. If you want more example games and
resource download the following:
You should install it in the same folder as Game Maker. You can
also download the zip file instead:
Game Maker is always being developed further. Please report any
problems or suggestions you have to
gamemaker@wanadoo.nl. Describe the problem carefully and, if
possible, incluse an example game that exhibits the problematic behavior.
Split file
Some people have problems downloading large files like the ones above.
This can result in the installer asking for a non-existing second disk. Or
the zip file can be corrupt. To solve this problem you might like to use a
program like
Go!Zilla.
ALternatively, load the following five split-up files. Put them in the
same folder and execute gmaker_split.exe.
Version 4.2a upgrade
Version 4.2a corrects a serious error in the Repeat action. If you
already have version 4.2 you can download the rundata file below and
replace it in the Game Maker folder.
More resources
Sprites, backgrounds, sounds, etc. are always in high demand. Here I
will put some resource packs created or collected by others. The
responsibility for the contents rests with the creators. Simply unzip the
file in the Game Maker folder. It should place the files in the
correct folders.
